When it comes to accommodations, you have the choice from hostels to 5 star resorts to anything and everything in-between. I’ll be the first to admit I have only stayed at a 5 star place a handful of times, one of which was in Puerto Plata at Casa Colonial Beach & Spa.

Where to begin? I can’t say enough good things about my time there. In fact, my only complaint is that I couldn’t stay longer!

“Located in the heart of the exclusive Playa Dorada community on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, Casa Colonial Beach & Spa is one of the country’s premier five-star resorts. The resort is accessible from two local airports: Puerto Plata Airport is only 15 kilometers (10 miles) away and the Santiago Airport is 70 kilometers (45 miles) away.” Check out their site for more information.

Upon arrival you are greeted with a friendly smile, warm hand towel and welcome drink. The property is absolutely stunning. The rooms are spacious, modern and clean with large balconies being a bonus. Personally, my favorite thing is the outdoor spaces though… from lush gardens to a pool and hot tubs that overlook the ocean to the ocean being steps away. It’s hard not to want to spend all your time outside.

No matter where you travel, or where you stay, the people are truly what leave a lasting impression and make it memorable. The staff couldn’t have been nicer! Seriously. When I went outside to take some of these pictures of the property it started to rain. One of the guys ran out with an umbrella… and held it for me!

When a few of us had free time and wanted to take a motorcycle taxi into town, we asked their opinion on where to find one. They didn’t just tell us where but escorted us to them to make sure we’d be safe. Every time you came in the lobby, or were passed in a hallway or throughout the property, you were greeted with a sincere smile and hello. It’s the little things that make a difference and at Casa Colonial Beach & Spa everyone went above and beyond.

With so much to do in Puerto Plata and stunning accommodations like this, how can you not want to book a trip? I know I’m ready to go back!
