Heading to Europe this summer (or next)?! Check out some of these popular summer festivals in Europe, with top headliners and a crazy amount of food!
I always seem to book long stretches of travel to Europe. Two summers ago I hopped around the continent from Italy to Germany to Switzerland to Slovenia to Greece (etc, etc), last summer I spent the majority of my time in Spain and Portugal, and this summer I’m about to head to Norway, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Russia (!!), and more Croatia. Alas, I’m a HUGE Europe fan.
But, I’ve never included a summer festival in my yearly Europe plans and I think its time to change that. Festivals have been all the rage for quite some time (with some going on for over 50 years), and I’ve never been. Not even to one! I’ve seen photos (OMG, they are epic) and heard numerous stories (even more hilarious), and I’m making it my 2019 goal to finally get my butt to a festival next summer. (Next summer, because this summer is already half way over, and I’ve got big plans already).[divider style=”thin” title=”” text_align=””]
Rock in Rio // Lisbon, Portugal
Ahh, Lisbon, a city I admire and love so much I’d honestly go back for any reason whatsoever. But for a full weekend of partying amongst my 350,000 best friends? You know I’ll be there! Although the location changes each and every year, Lisbon seems to be a popular location for Rock in Rio, which actually started in Rio de Janeiro in 1985! Some of the headliners in 2018 include Bruno Mars, The Killers, Muse, and The Chemical Brothers! Yes, yes, and yes, please! The pop art, arcade games, RIDES (yes, I just said rides), superhero performers, and all the food has really got me intrigued for next years Rock in Rio!
And with the fantastic Lisbon weather, why not plan a few extra days in the Portuguese capital and explore the beach, Sintra, and, Obidos (my favorite)![divider style=”thin” title=”” text_align=””]
Tomorrowland // Boom, Belgium
Theme park vibes, HELLO! Who doesn’t get all giggly about theme parks (I know I do!) And combined with electronic dance music – all the better! Thankfully, Tomorrowland takes place over two weekends, so you’ve always got two weekends to choose from! Or attend both! Why not celebrate love and unity for as long as humanly possible? Different artists perform depending on which weekend you choose, including Dua Lipa, Axwell /\ Ingrosso, French Montana at one, and Eric Prydz, Fatboy Slim, Armand van Helden at the other. And with 120 food stands with basically everything you could ever imagine (from vegan options to authentic Belgian chocolate), you can guarantee you’ll never be hungry!
Make sure to pack an umbrella because this is Belgium afterall – unpredictable weather and temps (although there’s a good chance it’ll be warm and sunny!)[divider style=”thin” title=”” text_align=””]
MELT // Berlin, Germany
Melt! has been ongoing in Berlin since 1997, and is one of Germany’s most legendary festivals for sure!
Huge acts have headlined at Melt! including Bjork, Jamie XX, Lana Del Rey and Oasis – and there’s sure to be just as impressive ones at this year’s festival! You’ll find Florence + The Machine (yesssss), Fever Ray, and The XX on the 2018 lineup! Wondering what to wear? Anything and everything you want! Take along all your colorful and crazy festival-wear (leopard print leggings and rainbow boas encouraged). And the food? Oh, it all looks sooooo good (bring your stretchy pants).[divider style=”thin” title=”” text_align=””]
Hideout Festival // Zrce Beach, Croatia
I visited Pag Island last summer and spent a night (and next morning, let’s face it) party-hopping at Zrce Beach. I cannot even imagine a festival here – absolutely insane! Wondering what it’s like? Pool, beach and boat parties all day and night, with 150 of the biggest artists all performing with fantastic sea views. Although the festival is relatively new (with it’s 8th year in 2018), Hideout festival has already gotten a reputation of being ridiculously wild, so prepare your liver beforehand! A few headliners this year include Nadia Rose, Chase & Status DJ set, and Jax Jones. With so much daylight, sunshine, and immense heat, you’ll want to wear your bathing suit so you can jump in the pools and/or ocean throughout the day. It’s a hot one. You can even go bungee jumping if you’re so inclined (why not, you’re in Croatia afterall!)
Check out even more festivals here and start planning your next summer festival (I know I am!)
