Looking for a mobile hotspot (pocket wifi) to use on your travels? Read on for my review of Vision Global Wifi, which I happily used during my recent time in Hawaii (and got absolutely fantastic internet connection without the high bills).

In my normal everyday non-traveling life, I rely on my cell phone way too much. And when it comes to travel? I’m basically glued to my phone. I use it not only for the obvious social media sharing, but for Google Maps to get around and navigate easily, researching admission prices and opening times, buying tickets to attractions, and at times for work and to check that long-long list of never-ending emails. Without it, I’d be running around like a chicken without a head. And because of that, I need a reliable way to stay connected, when I’m abroad or on the beach.

Global Vision Wifi review

I always love testing out new wifi devices (call me a nerd, I get it), so when Vision Global Wifi asked me to review their pocket wifi product, I eagerly agreed. I like technology, ok?! 😛 Speed, networks, accessibility, battery life; it’s all quite fun.

What and Why Should You Use A Pocket Wifi Device

Simply put, a pocket wifi device is just that – your own little handheld gadget that you can carry around with you (hence the term pocket) that provides a wifi connection (separate from that of your cell phone carrier or internet provider). The data used isn’t connected to your phone or internet bill, meaning you won’t get any nasty surprises waiting for you once returning home from a trip.

How Does it Work?

Basically, the device will connect to any 4G or 3G signal it picks up (dependent on whichever network is in the country) and automatically and immediately provide you with internet. Right away! No sim card, no calling your cell phone carrier, no scary bills creeping up. I tested it in both my home state of California and then on my recent trip to Maui, and am pleased to say the device picked up 4G Verizon wifi instantaneously (and never disconnected, not even once).

All you need to do is turn on the device, turn on your phone or computer WiFi, and connect to the Vision Global Wifi by inputting the password found on the device. It’s really that simple! The kit comes with instructions, but I honestly never even needed to use them as it was quite self-explanatory from the get-go!

Benefits of a Personal WiFi Device (mobile hotspot)

  • You’ll save heaps on international roaming on your phone plan back home
  • The ease of using it in multiple countries
  • Don’t need to rely on a local SIM card which can be quite difficult to access in certain countries
  • You’ll have your own 4G or 3G signal, and won’t need to rely on limited airport wifi, buy drinks in cafes to use their free internet connection, or lock yourself in your hotel room to map out your day (and many hotel wifi connections aren’t the greatest anyways).
  • Security and peace of mind; whenever you connect to a public wifi connection, you’re putting yourself and your phone/ipad/computer at risk for possible cyber hacking. Having your own wifi drastically reduces this risk and helps your information stay secure.

Why Choose Vision Global WiFi?

Global Vision Wifi review

Yes, there are numerous wifi devices from a whole slew of companies to choose from, so what makes Vision Global WiFi stand out from the others?

  • The ability to connect a whole slew of devices, up to TEN! That’s basically unheard of, as most companies only allow up to five connections. If we’re traveling with phones, ipads, and the occasional computer, that can add up pretty fast. It’s nice to know that friends and family we’re traveling with can also hop on if need be. Note that this option is only available when purchasing a plan to be used in Japan. US and Europe devices do not have this availability to connect to all 10.
  • The ease of “pickup” and drop off of the device. It really just can’t get any easier. The entire Vision Global WiFi kit comes mailed straight to you with a stamped return envelope, which you can drop off anywhere USPS picks up once you’re done using the device. (Be sure to order it a few days before, 4-5, in order to have time for the device to be sent to you).
  • It’s super lightweight which is a must if you’ll be carrying it around all day!  I’ve seen and used others but they were heavier and bulkier. It can also be used as a backup battery charger, in case you’re like me and always forget yours at home. 😛
  • Over 8 MILLION people have used Vision Global WiFi. That’s a lot of people and that’s a whole lotta data.

Order your device directly on the Vision Global website. You’ll be able to choose the plan that works best for you, depending on the amount of data that will be necessary on your trip.

Cost:

In order to get you the best prices available, costs vary depending on the countries you’re visiting. And thankfully, you only pay for your travel period, and there’s no hidden or extra fees (all companies need to do this). Traveling for over 30 days? You’re entitled to discounted daily rates!

I’m visiting Mexico for a bit in December, so I priced out a sample trip. At under $10 a day, it’s really not that bad! As you can see, I’d get UNLIMITED 4G wifi, which is top-notch in my book!
