It also happens to be my absolutely favourite destination that I have visited thus far!! This coast line is so impressive that it has even been deemed by UNESCO as a perfect example of a Mediterranean landscape. In this region of Italy, you will find colourful fishing villages clinging to the hillsides, where mountains from above plunge all the way down towards the sea. This leaves a truly narrow and very bendy road behind, where cars and tourist buses try to magically squeeze past each other. No place is more colorful than these 5 Amalfi Coast towns! The atmosphere of the Amalfi Coast, together with its olive groves and beautiful lemon terraces has attracted aspiring artists, writers and musicians for many many years. Whilst exploring this region, you will truly understand why there seems to be a magnetic pull to this glorious Italian region. We had loads of fun exploring the ‘road of a 1000 bends’ and visiting some of the picture-perfect little towns lining the coastline. Here is a list of 5 Amalfi coast towns that you simply SHOULD see whilst visiting the Amalfi Coast! Amalfi Coast Towns: 1| Positano Positano is a postcard-perfect colourful vertical town set in the shelter of a mountain. A town that is known to be boasting a brilliant contrast of an array of vibrant house and resort colours against the dramatic blue of the Mediterranean Sea. Here you will find steep narrow windy roads, cascades of flight upon flights of stairways and idyllic little alleyways filled with little boutique shops. Positano in Italy is definitely Amalfi Coast’s most picturesque town. A truly unique sight! One of my favourite places in the world! 2| Sorrento Sorrento is a coastal town which faces the Bay of Naples on the Sorrentine Pensinsula. You can also get some spectacular views over Mt Vesuvius in the distance! This town is also known as the gateway to the Amalfi Coast as it is usually the first town that people get to visit on their road-trip through the region. A lot of travellers also choose to base themselves here at this popular town (although we recommend staying in Positano instead). Sorrento is perched atop of cliffs, leaving you high above the marinas and beaches below! Here in this town, you will find incredible sea views, colourful buildings and dramatic cliff edges. The Piazza Tasso is a popular hang out spot with all its cafe’s lining the edges of the square, and why not explore the historic centre with its narrow alleys and impressive 14th century church! 3| Amalfi Amalfi is located only a few minutes drive from Furore, right in the centre of the Amalfi Coast. The town of Amalfi is clustered with white houses, mazed with alleyways crisscrossed throughout this medieval feeling town and scattered with watch towers overlooking the town squares. The alleys in Amalfi are congested with tourists and locals are driving closely at your feet, so immerse yourself in the feel of this gorgeous town. Amalfi happens to be the coast’s busiest town, with cruise ships lining the waters, you will understand why! A beautiful town to explore and make sure you get some gorgeous snaps out at the beach area as well! 4| Ravello Ravello is set high on top of the mountains, and due to its location it offers you the most spectacular panoramic views over the entire coast line. Not only does it boast incredible views, but this little town also has amazing gardens, delicious home cooked food, classical music concerts, spectacular villas and many more. With only a short trip from the town of Atrani and 3 kilometres up a hill, this little town is the perfect location for a lunch with a view and offers the perfect setting for a romantic dinner atmosphere! There are many spectacular views and villas to visit here, but Villa Cimbrone and its gardens and views has truly captured our hearts. The amazing gardens and the enchanting statues at the Terrace of Infinity which is looking out over the Mediterranean waters will be forever engraved in our minds. 5| Furore Furore is located in between Praiano and Amalfi. Amongst the mountains, hidden on the Amalfi Coast there’s the little town of Furore. This little town is so small that we completely passed it by without noticing and had to turn around in our hunt to find it. This destination is set between the stony mountain and is edged by the waters that lapse into its fjord. On one side the fjord and on the other the Tyrrhenian Sea. This one is definitely worth a find, make sure you explore the secrets of this truly unique spot! The drive along the Amalfi Coast is arguably the world’s most stunning and thrilling road trip. In our opinion you simply can’t go to the Amalfi Coast and not drive on this scenic winding, bending and curving oceanic road. And whilst you enjoy the adventures and challenges of the narrow roads, make sure to stop at these 5 Amalfi Coast towns. If you have more time up your sleeve, why not see all the other little villages along the way as well! And do make sure you hop on a boat and go and visit the famous Isle of Capri too!
