How could we be on the west coast and not satisfy our taste buds at In’N’Out Burger, the massively popular California-based fast food burger chain.  That would be total denial to our tongues, seriously.  And mine loves a good piece of meat.  And (a double order of) fries.  And soda.  And shakes.  And cheese. Okay, I’ll stop there before anyone starts thinking of me differently…

As soon as we got there, N. and I basically jumped up and down, we were so excited [and hungry from our morning adventures around town].  Okay, that an overstatement, but you get the point.

A behind the scenes look at our burgers being cooked.  [Of course N. asked why I was taking pictures of the kitchen- you would think he would know by now not to ask such a funny question, considering I’m snapping picture here and there every two minutes- literally.  Guess it may get a little annoying, perhaps? Oh well, he married me anyway!] Looks just like any other fast food kitchen, but the product is definitely much better. No wonder people keep coming back.

We were boring and ordered the stock burgers (what you get if you order right off the menu), a large fry, and a chocolate milkshake. At first glance, there aren’t many options, but for those who have done their research beforehand, why not consider some items off the secret menu?  Why not try animal style fries (with two slices of melted cheese, grilled onions, and spread as toppings. You’ll need a fork to eat them) or the The Flying Dutchman (with Two meat patties, two slices of cheese, and no bun).  Or how about a bag of Chopped chilis or a “wish burger“, a sandwich composed of only vegetables, no meat or cheese.

I could have shown the “during” & “after” photos, which were embarrassedly pretty messy, so I’ll end the eye candy here.  And no one needs to know what my half-eaten mess of a burger actually looks like. 
 
So, to comply with the title of my blog post:
 
THE IN’S: The super-customizable menu (with the option of secrets), delicious creamy melt in your mouth chocolate milk shake, burgers that actually look handcrafted, fresh ingredients.
 
THE OUT’S: The wait here kinda sucks (like 10-20 minutes), but I think it just makes it taste THAT much better.  The burgers are good, don’t get me wrong, but with more availability (to the east coast), they would blend in with the other burger joints around town.  Slightly overrated.
